Conspiracy to Murder
Late Thursday night in the Emergency Room at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital, resident Alex who is finishing the last of a 36-hour shift, codes a patient dying of heart failure. Unable to save her life after an exhausting 15-minute ordeal, Alex's patient dies.
Dejected, sorrowful, Alex returns to the Emergency Room desk to write his notes. Then, out of the corner of his eye, Alex hears her gasp, "Help me, help me." Astonished, Alex races to the woman's side. She has no pulse, she is lifeless. Her eyes are fixed and dilated. Unsure of himself--thinking that he has hallucinated from sleep deprivation, Alex returns to his desk. This time the patient sits up and cries aloud, "They're all going to kill you!" A cardiologist and surgeon, along with most of the Emergency Room staff run to the victim's side, and perform CPR for nearly an hour, until she passes.
Alex is brought before the medical board in a competency hearing, from which he is cleared--but as a result of the hearing Alex thinks he has unearthed--a conspiracy to reanimate life--thru murder! And no one believes him.
